Uh, Sun Microsystems, what's this all about?

I received the annoying system tray icon telling me I had update number 18923785473893289073478934 for Sun's Java software on my desktop. For giggles, I decided to actually read the licenses terms where I found this little nugget:

"You acknowledge that Licensed Software is not designed or intended for use in the design, construction, operation or maintenance of any nuclear facility."

Now, not that I'm involved in the "operation or maintenance" of nuclear facilities any longer but why the heck is that in the license terms?

Only for the true geek

Check out this countup clock, counting up to the 1234567890th second since Jan. 1, 1970. If I have to explain why Jan. 1, 1970 is important as the start date then you aren't a big enough geek to appreciate it.

Linux Geek Stuff

Interesting article about Linux as posted on Yahoo. As an old Unix guy I like the idea of Linux. As an IT Business Manager, I don't. I just purchased two new identical servers, one windows, one linux. After purchasing the Linux support package, the Linux server was $500 more (on a $2500 purchase) and I had to install the OS. The article points out continuing problems with Linux drivers and my experience says Linux admins, the good ones, are more expensive than Windows admins. I'm not a shill for MS but the arguments about open source being less expensive simply don't hold in my expereince.
